Editing Styles in Real Estate Photography
There are several different styles in real estate photography.
Two primary camps are HDR (High Dynamic Range) and “Flambient” using Flash in combination with natural (ambient) light .
Within these two groups, there are sub-groups. Below are a few examples of different styles of shooting and editing.
Base Images:
Three exposures of one image. Dark, Normal, Light
Auto HDR:
Multiple exposures of the image mixed together with software, but NO flash
Hand Blended HDR:
Multiple exposures of the image mixed together by hand, but NO flash
Pure Flambient:
One normal layer + flash layer(s)
Hybrid HDR + Flash:
(Lets call it “Hambient”, well maybe not…HDR layers mixed with flash)
This is the technique I use.
Much more work shooting and editing, but much more control and realistic looking results.
HDR “Desaturated” Real Estate Photography:
(HDR with adjustments to make things look whiter. Looks like a hospital to me, but what you will get when photos are edited overseas. Which is what many real estate photographers do.)
